HISTORY

ICON Precast Ltd was started in 2010 by Chris Broadhead primarily in response to the needs of the growing dairy housing industry.

The use of precast concrete not only shortened construction time (from 6 months to 6 weeks in some situations), it was more cost effective, and with intelligent design, the finished cow houses were easier to operate and maintain.

CRAFTSMANSHIP

While the economics of providing precast for the dairy industry was the catalyst for building a precast concrete plant, it was the ability to apply his background in fibreglass craftsmanship that really intrigued Chris.

From an early age working in his father's fibreglass factory, Chris loved crafting things from hand drawn designs.

After 30 years solving problems in the construction industry, Chris realised the potential of precast concrete as a construction material when shaped in fibreglass (and steel) moulds, and invested in his own precast factory in Timaru.

PROBLEM SOLVING DESIGN

The use of moulds allows ICON Precast to design intelligent problem solving features, and build them into the concrete, as it is cast in the factory.

Once you free your mind from the limitations of traditional concrete design, the possibilities for use are endless. ICON Precast can be used in any application where you have repetitive needs, a need to form shapes, a need to solve problems, or where rough cast concrete becomes difficult to work with and maintain.

Using fibreglass moulds makes the finished concrete naturally smooth, so it can be easily maintained and saves on labour costs where the surfaces have to be regularly cleaned.
